The Sadness Museum

History

In the Spring of 2006, Buckbee, A Writer, Inc. went public. In addition to serving as an agent to sadness-artists across the globo-national Indublishing community, and in addition to bringing to market the sad product of Buckbee himself, we decided to start a museum that will house our continual sadness cultivation for posterity.

The Sadness Museum thus came into being.

It’s the world’s first. Furthermore, it’s the first museum whose curators are its contributers. And it’s contributers are you! (Want to find out how to submit to The Sadness Museum?) Indeed, we at Buckbee, A Writer, Inc., do not claim to be the sovereign’s of sadness. Rather, we created this Sadness Museum to gain a better understanding of what exactly sadness is, to reach out to the inhabitants of this third rock from the sun (that’s you!) and ask: What object, what picture, what memento would you put in a Sadness Museum? Why? What is this object’s story?

Thus far the response has been overwhelming. The Museum is filled with sad artifacts donated by individuals from diverse cultural and business sectors. We have received artifacts from sad celebrities and CEO’s and from everyday people whose stories and artifacts capture this over-looked, under-respected emotion. We have artifacts from soldiers and singers, housewives and hustlers, millionaires and a man so poor he gave us his last quarter. The stories that accompany the artifact will move you to tears and, at the same time, remind you of the wonderful richness of this thing we call life.
